Rob Bowman, "Elektra" director

Rob Bowman: Based on my research with the "Elektra" character, both in the comic books and Greek mythologies -- extremely dark character. And, although I'm making a PG13 movie, I wanted to get the depth, and the shadows, and the high contrast, more to express, sort of, what's going on in her soul -- uh, because I can't have quite the violence that the comic book has, so how else could I take the audience, you know, deeper into the soul?

Bowman: And, also, because of the colors of her costume, I wanted the reds to be very rich against a very deep black. So, very dark, uh, very moody. This story is really about what's going on inside, and what's wrong -- she's, at the beginning of the movie, in somewhat of an emotional crisis.

Bowman: And, the idea is to take an assassin, who is as severe as she is, who wears bright red when she goes and kills people, unafraid of whether or not they see her -- and, try to get the audience to root for her and be sympathetic for her.

Elektra: I'm not a good person to get involved with.
