Jenny McCarthy: Nothing was bigger on TV in '04 than celebrities playing poker. Well, except for maybe those home makeover shows, and all those CSI's.
William Shatner: And then, of course, there was the war.
McCarthy: The war? I missed that. Hmm. I don't have cable.
Shatner: Maybe you should just introduce me.
McCarthy: Okay! Ladies and gentlemen, William Shatner!

( Cheers and applause as Shatner walks out onto the presentation stage )

Shatner: What becomes...
( Sultry music wafts from the orchestra. Shatner emotes a la "word jazz." )
...a big catchphrase?

Perhaps it's the unanswerable questions that eat at our soul. "Where's the beef?"
"Whatchoo talkin' 'bout Willis?"
"Who let the dogs out?" and "Whasssuuuppp?"
Or, perhaps those existential cries for help, like "D'oh!"

Or, "I've fallen and I can't get up."
Maybe it's the guttural noises that emerge from deep within our souls, "Wabba wabba wabba", "Yaba daba doo", "Nanoo nanoo", "Shazam" and "Shama lama ding dong."

Perhaps, most of all, it's the words we all wake up muttering, late at night, in a cold sweat. The words of some earthbound Has Been. The words "Beam me up, Denny Crane!"... Denny Crane... Denny Crane... Denny Crane...

Try and forget that one. Excuse me, as I pull myself together.

Shatner: And VH1, in their wisdom, declares that the big catchphrase of '04, that shall live long and prosper, is...

"That's hot!" Accepting: Hottie, Paris Hilton.

Paris Hilton: Wow. I can't believe I'm winning an award for this. I just want to thank VH1. And I've been saying this with my sister since we were little kids, so I can't believe I'm winning an award for it; but, that's hot. Thank you!

Shatner: That's really hot.
Hilton: Thanks for giving me the award, it's very hot.
Shatner: Very, very hot.

( During the closing credits... )

Shatner: It sounds like something... nasty. Doesn't it? "Big in '04."
