(Audience laughs)
Wayne: Man, I am so loopy. Without the fancy intro -- he is the Captain of the Enterprise. And he's been on the show before, and I've spazzed out because I'm a huge, huge Trekkie. So, I'm happy to have him here. But, in case you don't know, take a look...
Wayne: Folks, please welcome back to the show, Mr. Scott Bakula.
Wayne: What did you say?
Scott: I think she went, "Chicken man." She told me, "Chicken man."
Wayne: Oh, man. I have no idea. Because the intro, you know, sometimes they write very long intros. And I just couldn't speak at that point. "Wicky-chick. Wicked." So, I decided to break it down. "Rickit stop. Rickit back. Rakula."
Scott: "Wa-oh-ahh-oh-ahh-oh-ahh-ah..."
(Laughter)
Scott: Yeah. In a BMW.
(Laughter)
Wayne: Now, let's talk about the story.
Scott: Yes.
Wayne: I've been hooked. This season, the show has done a great job at reeling folks back in. You guys have been after the Xindi, trying to stop the super-weapon from killing everybody on Earth. So, now, you're trying to make peace with the Xindi?
Scott: Well, we find out, in this -- in the last couple of episodes, that the Xindi aren't our real enemy.
Wayne: Right.
Scott: So, I am stuck out there, trying to make these diplomatic decisions on my own; and decide that the best part of valor, for us, is to try and enlist them to help us stop the people who are really in charge of what's happening in the Expanse, and who've misled them that we are their enemies.
Wayne: Right.
Scott: And so, now, I'm trying to diplomatically convince them that we're not the bad guys.
Wayne: Now, for those of us that are hooked on the show; when the season finale comes up, are you just going to leave us hanging, again, for another season -- or, in some way, shape, or form, are things going to be wrapped up a little bit?
Scott: Hmmm...
Wayne: You're going to leave us hooked.
Scott: (laughs)
Wayne: See, I just... because the fact that you couldn't answer. You went, "Hmmm."
Wayne: Okay.
Scott: One of them, we don't get back to Earth.
Wayne: Right.
Scott: And one of them, the ship gets back to Earth and I'm not alive.
Wayne: Ooh.
Scott: And the other one is something about I wake up and I'm on a couch at William Shatner's house. Talking to him.
(Laughter and applause)
Scott: I'm not kidding.
Wayne: (Laughing) That's actually the best idea. "On Priceline.com!"
Scott: Yes.
Wayne: Now, when I was on the websites... I was on the Internet, and what I think is great is that -- I don't know if you folks know, but there are, um, from "USA Today", there's a poll that says "Save Our Shows." There's a survey for shows that are... that are on the cusp of maybe getting canceled, of shows that are leaving. And you, the people, are voting on trying to save these shows. And your show far outdistanced any other show. Folks want -- like 75% of the people polled want -- your show saved, more than any other show.
Scott: Yes.
(Applause)
Wayne: That is absolutely... that's incredible. That shows a lot of love.
Scott: It does. You know, the fans, especially this year -- I think we've had a tremendous third season -- and everybody loves the show.
Wayne: The stories are great.
Scott: They are great.
Wayne: The stories are great. The relationships. Between, uh... between Trip and, uh... and, uh...
Scott: T'Pol?
Wayne: And T'Pol. That's... I'm... I'm mad! I thought she was going to get together with you.
Scott: Well, you know, you never know. That could be the ending.
Wayne: But she's doing all these back rubs and "Yadda-nee" with him, and... aww.
Scott: (laughs)
Wayne: She's hot.
Scott: She is. She is. No, it's been a great season. And the fans have... they have really flocked back to the show. In fact, we were off for, I think, six weeks, and we came back on with an original program, and we were short of the wrestling on our network -- we were the number one show, again, after six weeks of being gone. So, the fans are so loyal, and so supportive. And, again, whether that poll will help swing any of the minds that are trying to decide... But, we are still in limbo; and we don't know what's going to happen.
Wayne: So, we don't know if you're coming back next season?
Scott: No. You and I could be working at McDonald's together.
Wayne: Right on, baby!
(Laughter and applause)
Wayne: Hey folks, we'll be right back. More with Scott Bakula.
(Cheers and applause. Commercial ad break...)
(The interview resumes)
Wayne: Folks, welcome back. I'm here with Scott Bakula, the star of UPN's "Enterprise"; the Captain. Now, let's go back a little bit, let's go back.
Scott: All right.
Wayne: To "Quantum Leap". Did you folks watch "Quantum Leap"?
(Cheers and applause)
Wayne: Wasn't this man amazing on "Quantum Leap"? Now, I've got good news: The first season DVD of "Quantum Leap" -- it's in stores soon, and I think that is huge.
Scott: Yeah.
Wayne: And you worked on the special features?
Scott: Yeah, we did. They interviewed myself and Dean; and Don, I believe.
Wayne: Wow.
Scott: And a couple other folks, and sat down and talked about the first nine hours. Because our first season is only -- we only had nine shows, the pilot and then eight other episodes. So, it was really a trip down memory lane. And you could only talk about those nine. "Don't talk about," you know, "the three when you were pregnant. Don't talk about...", "Uh...", "No, No." So, it was -- it's a long time ago. And I can still remember, which is good. And I... there were... there were a lot of good...
Wayne: "Tell us about the good old days!"
Scott: (In a geezer voice) "I try to remember, one..."
(Laughter)
Scott: Yeah. That'll be us in the movie, right? "I was trying to leap out of here, but I can't find the..."
Wayne: (Laughs)
(Laughter and applause)
Wayne: Absolutely.
Scott: But, he had to audition. So did Malcolm McDowell. I mean, you know.
Wayne: He made Malcolm McDowell audition?
Scott: The two of... He didn't, but the network did.
Wayne: Wow.
Scott: You understand what I'm talking about.
Wayne: Oh, trust me.
Scott: Okay.
Wayne: But, it all worked out. Because, the show, really... I, uh, not to heap, you know, tons and tons of praise, but just to tell you that that really, in my mind, is just one of the best TV shows ever done. And the stories were so great. And I really remember the one where the first time that you leaped into this black guy, and the story that happened. It was so deep, and it didn't go for any potshots. It wasn't cheap; it was real.
Scott: Yeah.
Wayne: And I remember, as a younger actor, looking at that and going, "Okay, that's a great job. I want to do a job like that."
Scott: That was the first season. We can talk about that!
Wayne: Yeah. Oh... oh, good!
Scott: Yeah.
Wayne: Good, good, good, good...
Scott: You almost got yanked on that one.
Wayne: You did an incredible job.
Wayne: So, in a way, my people saved your show.
Scott: Absolutely.
Wayne: Thank us all, right now.
(Cheers and applause)
Scott: Yes.
Wayne: On behalf of all of us, "You're welcome."
Scott: Me being trapped in the body of your people.
Wayne: Yes.
Scott: Yes, uh, it was... I don't know -- we had a ball. You know what's great about that show is it holds up when you see it.
Wayne: Absolutely.
Scott: And it's like, "Yeah, that still works." And they flip it on in Russia; "Yeah, they get that", they understand what that's all about.
Wayne: And the best thing is you're so proud of it. It's nice to see someone proud of their work.
Scott: Yeah. Well, I am. I was lucky.
(Applause and cheers)
Wayne: Well, you know what? I'll be one of those voices trying to keep "Enterprise" on the air, man.
Scott: All right. Well, if we come back, next year, you're on.
Wayne: You... don't say too...
Scott: Yeah, 'cause you got a job. You know.
Wayne: Okay!
Scott: I already put the word out. They said, "Bring it on."
(They shake hands)
Scott: My pleasure. Good luck to you.
Wayne: Folks...
Scott: This guy!
Wayne: ...be sure to watch "Enterprise"; Wednesday nights, UPN. You have to see this man. And go out and get the first season DVD of "Quantum Leap"; it's in stores June 8th. Mr. Scott Bakula, folks. You're great.
(Cheers and applause. End of Scott Bakula's segment.)
